Educational Function. Collection, analysis, presentation and archiving of data related to Pacific Northwest waterways to inform key regional leaders on issues of importance.

• CEDER has recently completed a Columbia/Snake River System and Oregon Coastal Cargo Ports Marine Transportation System study. That study provides a framework for maintaining and developing the region’s navigation, railway and roadway transportation infrastructure.

• Other projects are planned in the areas of international trade, development and maintenance in support of regional economic development, infrastructure and regional water policy, depending on the availability of grants to support the research.

Regional Policy Function. CEDER will build upon the information it develops to lead the Pacific Northwest in developing broad public consensus and an agenda to support economic development in the region through strategic use of media, exhibits, conferences, group facilitation, publications and the Internet.

This regional policy function will go beyond informing decision makers. It will bring key decision-makers, business leaders, politicians, academia and interest groups together—both literally and figuratively—to chart a course for the future.
