FY2008 Senate Energy & Water Appropriations bill to move
this week
We are pleased to learn that the
Senate FY2008 Energy & Water appropriations bill is scheduled to be
marked up this week. The Energy
& Water Appropriations Subcommittee is expected to clear the bill
tomorrow, and the full Senate Appropriations committee should mark up the
bill on Thursday.
Though the House version of the
bill (H.R.2641) was moved through committee three weeks ago, a vote on the
House floor has been stalled due to a broader partisan conflict about when
and how to reflect earmarks/project funding in appropriations bills. House subcommittee staff
are currently working to reflect project funding amounts, and this
information is expected to eventually be attached to another legislative
vehicle. For more about the House
bill that has been released, please see
Norwester 276 at www.pnwa.net.
As the House and Senate move
toward completion of their versions of the FY2008 Energy & Water
appropriations bills, PNWA will keep you informed of specific project
funding numbers and important language in the bills. For more information, or to find out how
to get involved please contact PNWA at 503-234-8550 or www.pnwa.net.

2007 PNWA Mid-Year Meeting another
great success
The 2007 PNWA Mid-Year Meeting was
held at the Red Lion Richland Hanford House and focused on a wide range of
issues that brought something of importance for all of our members. We would like to thank all of our
participants for making this years meeting another great success!
PNWA would especially like to
thank this years speakers for their time and support. The 2007 Mid-Year speakers ranged from
private industry and federal agency leaders to port and federal representatives. We were able to hear about sustaining the
Portland-Vancouver working waterfront, innovative alternative energy
sources, the latest on the Biological Opinion, and the new Green Dams, Blue
Skies campaign. We also heard a
report from Capt. Patrick Gerrity of the U.S.
Coast Guard, as well as the latest updates from the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers Northwestern Division, and Portland,
Seattle,
and Walla Walla Districts. This was a wonderfully unique way for PNWA
to hear directly from federal agency leaders about how our members and
staff can address the issues that matter most to our region. To view all of
the presentations from the 2007 Mid-Year Meeting, please click HERE.
PNWA would like to give a
special thanks to Barb Lisk, the District
Director for U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings, for taking the time to attend our
Board of Directors Meeting. Barb
graciously read a letter from the Congressman, which exemplified his
continued support of PNWAs priority projects and
efforts. We were also pleased to
welcome meeting attendees from the offices of Sen. Patty Murray, Sen. Larry
Craig, Sen. Mike Crapo, Rep. McMorris-Rodgers,
and Rep. Sali.
A special thanks also goes out
to our 2007 Mid-Year Meeting sponsors: Port of Benton, Port of Kennewick, Port
of Pasco, Columbia River Steamship Operators, Lewis-Clark Terminal, Inc., Port
of Vancouver, Port of Portland, Port of Umatilla, Columbia River Pilots, Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, Tidewater Barge Lines,
CH2M Hill, Jan T. Fancher, CPA/PLLC, NorthernStar
Natural Gas LLC, Port of Lewiston, and Shaver Transportation. We appreciate your ongoing support!
For all members and friends, we
encourage you to attend our 2007 Annual Meeting, October 10th-12th
at the Red Lion Inn at the Quay in Vancouver,
WA. The Annual Meeting is a great opportunity
for PNWA members to have direct input on our Policies and Projects for
2008, which heavily dictate our priority issues as we prepare for the 2008 Mission to Washington,
March 2nd-7th, 2008.
