Water Resources Development Act
PNWA is currently preparing for a 2011 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). WRDA is traditionally biennial legislation and was last passed in 2007. When Congress moves forward with a WRDA 2011, PNWA will advocate for inclusion of language to make Section 214 regulatory funding authority permanent. PNWA will also be supporting project proposals from our member ports. These projects will be posted to our website by late March 2011, when project submissions are due to the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee.
Senator Patty Murray and Senator Maria Cantwell have released a form for interested parties to complete and submit for WRDA projects in Washington state. Access the form here.
Senator Ron Wyden and Senator Jeff Merkley have released have released a form for interested parties to complete and submit for WRDA projects in Oregon. Access the form here.

Congress successfully overrode a Presidential veto of the 2007 WRDA bill on November 7, 2007, enacting the bill into law for the first time since 2000. PNWA greatly appreciates the Northwest Congressional delegation's unanimous support of this legislation over the years, and for securing provisions of great importance to PNWA members.
Among PNWA’s priorities included in the 2007 WRDA bill were:
- extension of Section 214 regulatory funding authority until 2009
- elimination of artificial operating restrictions on the federal dredges Essayons and Yaquina
- elimination of deed restrictions on port lands formerly owned by the Corps to allow a full range of port activities
