PNWA Welcomes New Member - Hood River White Salmon Bridge Authority

The Hood River-White Salmon Bridge Authority oversees the bridge replacement project, including the management of funding and bridge design and construction.

The Hood River-White Salmon Bridge needs replacing. It’s near the end of its serviceable life and wasn’t built to safely accommodate our long-term needs. The new bridge will provide a safe, affordable, modern crossing for people and commerce via different modes of transportation, benefiting community members and the area’s economy. The bridge will exist in harmony with local cultural practices, and its design will complement the natural beauty of the area and help protect the local ecosystem.

PNWA Presents at Port of Kalama Commission Meeting

Port of Kalama
Executive Director, Neil Maunu attended the Port of Kalama Commission meeting on 8/27. Mark Wilson gave Neil an amazing, thorough tour of everything the port is up to – from McMennamin’s three buildings and multiple bars, to the kalama industrial park to the brand new Spencer Creek Business Park, and of course the dozens of tenants, downtown property, and two grain elevators! Tons of exciting opportunities! Oh, and not to mention the Mountain Timber Market!
Neil gave a brief update to the Comission on what PNWA and IPNG have been up to this summer and plans for the next few months. Exciting times. PNWA is glad to have such supportive members – port staff and commissioners. THANK YOU, Kalama!

PNWA attends Kalama Cultural Festival

PNWA was honored to attend the Kalama Cultural Festival this past weekend! What an incredible day celebrating the vibrant traditions of the Pacific Northwest and the blending of Hawaiian and Native American cultures through music, dance, food, and community.

A special thanks to Mark and the entire team for all the work that went into making this event such a success—we truly enjoyed the opportunity to connect and experience the festival with you.

Tidewater Terminals Announces Cole Van Gundy as New Vice President

PNWA congratulates Tidewater on welcoming Coulston (Cole) Van Gundy as Vice President of Shipyard and Terminal Operations. Cole brings nearly two decades of maritime industry experience, most recently serving as Vice President of Engineering at Crowley. Over his career, he has overseen the delivery of more than 20 vessels and assets, including groundbreaking projects such as the largest Jones Act-compliant LNG bunker barge and the first all-electric U.S. harbor tug. His expertise in vessel and shore operations, paired with a strong background in engineering and project management, will be a valuable asset as Tidewater continues to strengthen its operations and advance sustainable maritime solutions.

PNWA is honored to be featured as one of the “Dam Champions” in the August/September issue of Wheat Life. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our mission with Washington wheat farmers and highlight our work to protect the Columbia-Snake River System—a vital transportation corridor for moving Northwest wheat to market.

Lower Snake River Dam System Educational Tour

LSRD
Neil and Megan joined the Washington Association of Wheat Growers for their annual Lower Snake River Dam System Educational Tour for Congressional staff. It was a packed day of education and connection beginning with a panel at 6:45 am to set the stage for the close to 20 congressional staffers who arrived in Lewiston from offices all over the country. Neil joined fellow stakeholders of the river system to give perspective on the threats to the LSRDs and how IPNG advocates for their protection. After the early morning briefing the participants loaded a bus to Boyer Park where they hopped on a jet boat to travel through the Lower Granite Dam Lock, before embarking on a tour of the dam’s fish passage system and powerhouse. Rounding out the day, Scott Corbitt hosted everyone at the Port of Lewiston for a tour of “ground zero” to the LSRD removal threat. The group was then treated to ice cream and Q and A at the Port’s Confluence River facility, where earlier this month, American Cruise Lines celebrated the official opening of Idaho’s first cruise boat dock. Educating Congressional staffers with portfolios that affect this river system, who then return to their bosses making the decisions that have real impact, is incredibly important and valuable. Appreciation to Michelle Hennings and her team for their hard work in putting on this tour and for inviting PNWA.

East Side Member Tour with Vice President Patrick Harbison

Ports
Following the Washington Association of Wheat Growers Lower Snake River Dam System Educational Tour, Neil and Megan joined up with PNWA Vice President and IPNG Co-Chair Patrick Harbison to meet with eastside members. The tour began in Lewiston with a visit to its port before crossing the river to meet with the Port of Clarkston team.  Keeping with the theme of ports, the team returned to the other side of the river to tour the Port of Whitman County’s Port of Wilma and connect with one of its tenants, Columbia Grain. There is a lot going on in this area and it is exciting to learn about the future projects and opportunities coming down the pike. Next stop was Walla Walla, connecting with the Northwest Grain Growers and Port of Walla Walla, followed by more port visits with the Port of Benton and the Port of Pasco. Again, there is no shortage of activity on the east side. The last day included an in-depth tour of the Port of Morrow. Learning about the projects to bring broadband fiber to residents, provide incubator space for start-up businesses, build more housing, and to generally increase the socioeconomic prosperity of the community was truly inspiring. There is so much gratitude for the time spared by incredibly busy people to educate and show off their properties.
